The Gallien-Krueger 800 RB bass head is a classic, workhorse amplifier. Countless bass players have used them on stages all over the world. Thanks to the engineering know-how of Bob Gallien, it’s apparently the first bi-amp bass head, which allows for separation of low and high frequencies and ability to output to different speakers. He studied electrical engineering at Stanford and used his proficiency to start making amplifiers in his garage in the late 60s. Legend has it that he took an amp he’d made to his local music store, ran into Carlos Santana there who bought said amp and took it with him to Woodstock. $499 with SKB roadcase.
