1981 was a big year for KORG, which marked the release of their highly anticipated Polysix. A six-voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer that soon became infamous and embraced by 80s artists all around the world.
It was marketed to contend with the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, which was hugely popular at that time.
The Polysix was equipped with six voices with unison and chord memory assignment modes, 32 slots for patches, an arpeggiator and back up patch cassette port, 1 VCO per voice, 1 sub-oscillator per voice, a resonant low-pass filter plus on-board phaser and chorus.
Used by many formidable keyboardist for it’s unique characteristics and straightforward subtractive synthesis architecture. KORG definitely gave the Roland Junos and the Prophet a run for their money. The Polysix holds a timestamp on synth history as a breakthrough unit that still demands cult status.
We have one in the shop right now on consignment. Give us a holler if you’re interested.
