The Moserite Ventures guitar was a short-lived collaboration between California guitar makers, Moserite and the surf-rock Legends, the Ventures. They are just one of those guitars where the design is so cool they became iconic and have a legacy all their own. Mosrite made other similar versions too and of course other guitar makers copied them as well.
One of the most well known copies was made in Japan by Univox; The Hi-Flyer. The Univox Hi-Flyers were manufactured for about a decade and went through four phases featuring different types of pickups and parts. They also made basses under the Hi-Flyer name.
The Univox Hi-Flyers were manufactured by Matsumoku and just like other models from the Matsumoku plant, there were different runs with different branding as well.Another brand from the Matsumoku plant that produced a Moserite Ventures copy was Aria Guitars. They made the model 1702T and maybe some others as well, during the late 60s to early 70s.
This one here is a reissued Aria 1702T, which we stock new, that goes by the model DM-206. It does a good job for what it is, which is a reissue of a copy, maybe even enough for a purist to not put their nose up too high but no promises… haters gonna hate. But we like ’em! That’s why we have them!
