Continuing this week’s “Made In Japan” Series posts, we wanted to show off this mid-to-late 70s Univox hollowbody.
This model is called the Univox Coily U1825 and is almost identical to the Epiphone EA-250 which were made at the same time by Matsumoku. It’s a Walnut finished, thin-bodied, double-cutaway with period correct Bigsby tremolo tailpiece added. Beautifully aged binding on the body and neck show a smokey tint. Bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and mother-of-pearl inlayed fretmarkers. Original Staple-style humbucking pickups are open and voiced nicely with clear note clarity yet a little throat and grit when pushed. 3 way selector and 2 volume / 2 tone controls and a floating roller bridge.
Plays the blues for real but I could it see applying itself nicely to jangley rock or some dark lounge. Made in Japan at the famous Matsumoku factory. Comes with a hardcase $749.00.
