We are loving the VOX MV50s amps on multiple levels. They are pocket sized powerful amplifiers that sound rich and beautiful. Technically a hybrid tube amp, they use VOX’s Nutube technology, a small vacuum tube preamp, and a class D power section. You can achieve that tube-amp sound and feel and they weigh just over 1 lb.
They offer a variety of styles, my favorite being the ‘AC‘ which is based on the famous AC30 British classic. There’s also a ‘Clean‘, a ‘High Gain‘, and ‘Boutique‘ available at the shop currently. Although voiced for guitars, people use them with pianos, drum machines and synths to great effect.
VOX also makes 8 ohm extension speakers that match and sound great with the series. There’s a 1×8″ (pictured) and a 1X12″ available. Or use any speaker cabinet you’d like. Plus the heads have switchable impedance (4, 8, and 16 ohm) to work with different rigs.
One of the ways these amps shine is in the studio. Think of it as a pedalboard amp or desktop amp. Record directly from the line out to the board or your interface and maintain that realistic feel as you lay down your tracks. Headphones sound great too for after-hours practice.
